25th Wedding Anniversary Vacation -- Kauai Hawaii -- Day One and Two

Leaving our Children @ Lori's
Getting Ready for the Flight
Fred Caught My Hands Being Nervous Before Takeoff
In the Seattle Airport
Mountains in the Sky
Waiting in Los Angeles
Ready for the Flight to Lihue
5 1/2 hours Later
Finally There and So Tired
Long flight but it felt magical to be here. The airport was small and  half outdoors. The air felt and smelled different, like salt and plumeria--beautiful right from the start.
Sicker Shock--this was the cheapest store we found--the first store the eggs were $9--all food is expensive. Most things are at least triple the price.
The first morning out our balcony
Watching the Sunrise @ 5:45ish AM (Fred was still in bed since we went to bed @3AM)
Fred up on the Balcony
Me in My Pajamas (Sorry Dad) --Walking in from Watching the Sun Rise
Just Missed the Sunrise, but Loving the Waves
The Pool Area on the Beach
Plumeria in My Hair (Sadly, but Easily, The Humidity Makes this the Best Hairstyle)
Strange Trees -- Looks Like It Roots Like Strawberries
Pretty Plants Everywhere --Kauai Is Called "The Garden Island" For Good Reason
A Cute Lizard
Our Town in Kauai
Roosters and chickens and chicks are cverywhere! (like ducks in our parks, but all over the island).
Visitors to Kauai complain about being woken up early by Roosters but we are so close to the sound of the Ocean and on the 3rd floor so we never hear them until we are ready to hear them.
Some kind of animal shell we found on our first beach walk--it's thin like a crab shell.
Looking at Crabs (I was out of there, they seem like ocean tarantulas to me--Creepy).
A monk seal resting on the beach (being protected by volunteers here). We had to walk around, but caught a picture. They said she was so skinny because she had just freshly weaned her pup and they don't eat while they are nursing. The baby gains 50 pounds while the mother loses 50 pounds. That's sacrifice.
My ever strange husband.
Texting our children

Enjoying the ocean
A tiny baby bird
Being fed by it's mother
So sweet and vulnerable--we got VERY close before we realized it was a baby and obviously couldn't fly away.
A Hawaiian cemetery we found on our first day's drive.
The grounds were very different and beautiful
A new grave--the picture doesn't show it very well, but the dirt was mounded up.
Wailua Falls--taller than Niagara (just not as much water flowing over).
The gorgeous cliffs that surrounded it.
Flowering trees everywhere
A street Art Walk we visited--a different kind of masseuse. No thanks. =)
The highlight of my day--An art store owners pet.
Such a cool used book store--I could have looked at treasures in here for hours. A young girl was playing a beautiful violin in front.
Still budgeting--even on vacation. =)
Different trees on our drive.
Another rooster--of the hundreds
Pretty Mountains
Fred snorkeling

Scoping our the Kapaa church on Saturday, so we'd know where to go on Sunday. (We attended the block today--The opening song and the closing prayer of Sacrament meeting were in in Hawaiian and there is an outdoor courtyard that all of the classrooms and library open out into (all the auxiliary closets are outdoors. Cool cultural differences.
